Has your doctor ever offered a cortisone injection to stop the pain and the first two questions that come to mind are what is cortisone and how will it help?

Cortisone is the most common type of injection used to treat pain and inflammation in the joints and tissues of the body. Although cortisone can help, it is not something that should be injected into the body repeatedly because it is a steroid, which has side effects. Steroid injections can weaken tendons and sometimes create more inflammation in the area. Diabetics should not get cortisone injections because it can elevate blood sugar levels.

If cortisone is not an option for you, there are other types of injections that have little, to no side effects. Traumeel and Zeel are 2 different types of homeopathic injections developed in Europe over 60 years ago. More doctors are moving toward these homeopathic injections to avoid the side effects of steroid injections.

  • Traumeel is used for inflammatory and degenerative conditions of the musculoskeletal system and is made up of herbs and flower extracts. This injection is even safe for children with chronic pain or inflammation problems.
  • Zeel is used for the treatment of pain associated with arthrosis, osteoarthritis and rheumatic joint diseases.

Studies on both injections show a significant improvement in pain and stiffness, with longer lasting effects than cortisone or other steroid injections. There is a lot of information and research out there for anyone interested in these types of injections. If you know you are not a candidate for cortisone injections or have found that they have not helped you in the past, ask your doctor about these homeopathic injections.

Recently, I was suffering from shoulder pain and had an ultrasound guided Traumeel injection.  I had endured the pain for 2 months and couldn't exercise or sleep without pain. I am amazed how quickly the pain diminshed allowing me to start an exercise regime to strengthen the shoulder girdle.
