Simplify: Self-Help Advice on Planning Your Next Trip

Written by Sierra Alvis

It's never too soon to prepare for your next vacation. Pack now and you'll save time and energy later.
Since it's the smallest things that, when forgotten at home, cause you the biggest inconvenience, keep a toiletry bag stocked and ready to go at all times.

By keeping your toiletries and other favorite essentials packed, you'll save precious moments before your trip and be less likely to forget them in a rush to get out the door. Keep your pre-packed bag in your suitcase, making sure to replenish it at trip's end. Make sure any toothpaste, shampoo or other liquid item is under three ounces and in a plastic bag so you can fly through security, without losing your essentials. This way you could carry on your suitcase if it's small enough and not have to wait at the baggage claim.

The same applies with supplies for kids. Make your life easier by keeping their carry-on bag pre-packed with toys, books, antibacterial wipes and treats to keep them occupied on a long trip. Again, make sure to refill the bag after your return, so that it's ready for next time.
